Unpleasant Taste or Odor Mask: The coating can be used to mask the unpleasant taste or odor of certain medications, making them more palatable to patients.
Protection against Degradation: It can protect the medicine against environmental factors, such as moisture or light, which can cause degradation.
Controlled Release: In some cases, the coating may be formulated to provide a controlled release of the drug in the gastrointestinal tract by altering the rate of dissolution.


2. Basic Operation:

The tablet coating process in a high coater generally involves the following steps:

Preparation of Coating Solution: A solution containing the coating ingredients is prepared. These ingredients may include polymers, dyes, plasticizing agents, among others, depending on the specific objectives of the coating.

Tablet Loading: Tablets are loaded into the drum or coating chamber of the machine. The drum is usually designed to rotate, allowing the tablets to move while the coating is applied.

Application of Coating Solution: The coating solution is sprayed onto the tablets as the drum rotates. The coating is evenly distributed over the surface of the tablets.

Drying: After applying the coating, the tablets go through a drying process to remove the solvent from the coating solution. Drying can be carried out by hot air or other means.

Curing (Optional): In some cases, coated tablets may undergo a curing process to allow the coating ingredients to completely solidify.

Quality Control: Coated tablets undergo quality controls to ensure the thickness and uniformity of the coating, as well as to verify that they meet the desired standards.

Unloading Coated Tablets: The coated tablets are unloaded from the machine and are ready for packaging and distribution.

Tablet coaters are essential equipment in many pharmaceutical production lines, allowing the manufacture of medicines with specific release, stability and patient acceptance characteristics.

There are different types of drageers (also known as dredging machines) and high coaters (high efficiency coaters) used in the pharmaceutical and food industries. Each type of equipment is designed to meet different production needs and apply specific coatings to products such as tablets, granules, seeds or confections. Below are some common types:

Dragee machines:

Conventional Dragee:

The conventional dredger is designed to coat tablets, granules or seeds with a thin layer of coating. It may have a rotating drum to rotate products during the coating process.
Fluidized Bed Drager:

In this type of dragee, products are suspended in a fluidized bed of air while the coating is applied. This allows for more even coverage and is often used on heat-sensitive products.
Paddle Dredger:

This dragee uses paddles or arms to move products inside a container. The paddles facilitate stirring and even coating.
Perforated Drum Dredge Machine:

The perforated drum allows the coating to be applied while the products are agitated, ensuring even distribution of the coating.
High Coats:

Continuous High Coater:

This type of high coater is designed for continuous operation on high-capacity production lines. It may have a rotating drum or other mechanism for efficient application of the coating.
Fluidized Bed High Coater:

Similar to the fluidized bed dredger, the fluidized bed high coater uses an airflow to suspend products while the coating is applied. This is effective for uniform coatings.
Perforated Drum High Coater:

Just like the dragee, the perforated drum is used to apply the coating while the products are moved and agitated.
High Speed High Coater:

Designed for high-speed operations, this type of high coater is efficient and precise when applying large-scale coatings.
High Coater with Advanced Control:

Some high coater machines incorporate advanced process control systems, allowing precise adjustments of parameters such as temperature, air flow and coating amount.
High Coater for Controlled Release:

This type of high coater is designed to apply coatings that allow controlled release of medications over time.
The choice between these types of drageers and high coaters will depend on the specific characteristics of the product to be coated, the objectives of the coating (such as improving appearance, protecting against degradation, masking flavor, etc.) and the requirements of the production line. Each machine has its advantages and is selected based on the specific needs of the application.
