Dissolved oxygen transmitters |
Dissolved oxygen transmitters are used to measure the amount of oxygen present in liquid solutions. This is fundamental in several applications, especially in laboratory and industrial environments, where the concentration of dissolved oxygen can affect biological, chemical and environmental processes. Accurate monitoring of dissolved oxygen is crucial in sectors such as water treatment, food and beverage production, pharmaceutical industry, aquaculture, among others.
How it works:
The basic operation of a dissolved oxygen transmitter involves the following steps:
Dissolved Oxygen Probe: The transmitter is equipped with a specific probe or sensor to measure the concentration of dissolved oxygen in the solution. This probe usually contains an electrode that reacts with oxygen.
Electrochemical Reaction: The electrode reacts with the oxygen present in the solution in a specific electrochemical reaction. This reaction generates an electrical current proportional to the oxygen concentration.
Signal Conversion: The electrical current generated is converted into an electrical signal that can be interpreted and processed.
Signal Transmission: The converted signal is transmitted to a control or monitoring system, usually through cables or wireless communication.
Display/Control: Information about dissolved oxygen concentration can be displayed on a control panel or monitored remotely. Additionally, the control system can use this information to automatically adjust process parameters.
Types of Dissolved Oxygen Transmitters:
Optical Transmitters: Use optical technology to measure the concentration of dissolved oxygen, often using a fluorescence reaction.
Galvanic Transmitters: They are based on a galvanic cell, where an electrochemical reaction occurs between two electrodes. The rate of this reaction is related to the oxygen concentration.
Amperometric Transmitters: Use a platinum electrode to measure the current generated by the electrochemical reaction between oxygen and the electrode.
Polarography Transmitters: They use an electrochemical cell that allows selective diffusion of oxygen to measure concentration.
Membrane Transmitters: They have an oxygen selective membrane that allows the diffusion of gas to the sensor.
The choice of the type of dissolved oxygen transmitter depends on the specific characteristics of the environment, the application and the process conditions. These devices are vital for ensuring quality and control in a variety of industries. |
