Working Principles:
The basic operation of an industrial boiler involves burning a fuel to generate heat, which is transferred to water, resulting in the production of steam. Key elements include:
Burner:
Responsible for burning fuel, be it gas, oil, coal, biomass, or others.
Heat exchanger:
The area where heat transfer from fuel to water occurs. It can be of the tubular type, where hot gases pass through tubes immersed in water, or of the drum type, where water circulates around a drum containing the tubes.
Combustion Chamber:
Place where fuel burns, providing heat.
Control system:
Regulates the amount of fuel and air to maintain the desired temperature and avoid unsafe operations.
Types of Industrial Boilers:
Watertube Boilers:
They have water tubes that surround the combustion chamber. They are efficient in large-scale steam production.
Fire tube boilers:
Smoke tubes pass through water, providing greater efficiency in low pressure applications.
Hot Water Boilers:
Designed to provide hot water, not steam. They are common in central heating systems.
Heat Recovery Boilers:
They capture residual heat from exhaust gases to increase energy efficiency.
Recovery Steam Boilers:
Used to recover steam from industrial processes for reuse.
Biomass Boilers:
They burn organic waste such as biomass to generate heat. They can be fed with wood, sugarcane bagasse, among others.
Gas Boilers:
They use gas as fuel, common in industrial applications where natural gas is available.
Electric Boilers:
They convert electrical energy directly into heat, making them useful in places where other forms of fuel are impractical.
